Gas / oil ratioThe ratio of produced gas (see natural gas) to produced crude oil, commonly abbreviated GOR.

Gas-to-liquids (GTL)Referring to a process featuring reaction of methane with oxygen or steam to produce syngas (a mixture of hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide) followed by synthesis of liquid products (such as diesel and naphtha) from the syngas using Fischer-Tropsch catalytic synthesis. The process is similar used in coal-to-liquids or biomass-to-liquids.

GaugeThe diameter of a drill bit or the hole drilled by a bit

GeosteeringA technique in which one or more geologically sensitive parameters, measured downhole and transmitted to the surface, are used to guide the well path and keep it in the desired location. In GEOMETRICAL STEERING, the measurements are limited to azimuth and inclination, and the well is steered toward a pre-determined geometrical target. In GEO(logical)STEERING, formation sensitive measurements are used to steer the wellbore in relation to adjacent geological features.

Gunhole DrillingA method to drill high-precision small-diameter boreholes over long distances. SBO’s gunhole process has been developed in cooperation with Vienna Technical University and is already used on an industrial scale.
